Cooperation!

Let's take this nice and slow and easy. I would like to see a little more cooperation between AAPA and NAPA. I urge you to register on this website. It may not be set up quite correctly just yet but will be very soon. When it is you can post your ideas and comments and feelings for all to read.
Granted we are two different organizations and we operate differently. But down deep we have many of the same aspirations and goals. There are many things that we could do together (without merging) that would be beneficial to both organizations. The main thing I would like to see for starters is a simultaneous convention. Perhaps you would see some old friends that you've met in the past, but haven't seen in years because it is just too expensive and time consuming to go to two conventions. Let's face it, a special rate of $99.00 per day plus 16.5% tax is still $115.34 per night is a little steeper to a few more people than $79.00 plus 12 % tax. A 4 day stay at the first is $461.34. A 4 day stay at the second is $353.92. If you go to both, you going to spend $815.26 for lodging alone.Travel expenses and meals for both are to add a considerable amount.
Yet that is only a small part of the benefits that could be realized. With cooperative planning you could have simultaneous events that might appeal to two different type of people. A joint auction might really be interesting and beneficial to both organization. There is a myriad of avenues we could persue.
If you can't type a reply on line, type in up in an e-mail to me ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ) and I'l post if you tell me to. You could also type it up in a word processor (save it in .rtf format[rich text format]) and send it to me
The other thing we need to do is embace the new technology if we expect younger people to get involved. Let's hear from you.

Ohio Amateur Press Guild

The Guild presently (since the year 2000) is made up mostly of AAPA members and some people who are also members of NAPA. The group was originated by a group of NAPA members back in the 1970's. There is no constitution or by-laws, no dues, no officers. You don't have to be an Ohioan to join. If you ever went through Ohio or if you just kind of like Ohio you can join the group. It is just a group of like minded individuals who get together occasionally. The get-togethers are usually in relation to the planning of a convention of one of the amateur press associations lately. When the group started we had pretty regular meetings and printed a joint effort booklet once a year, called the OAPG Annual. This is when the group was pushed by Rev. Bill Boys, when he was living in Mansfield, Ohio.

We understand there will be an OAPG picnic to discuss the upcoming AAPA Convention in Columbus, Ohio Aug 20-23, 2009.

We will meet on Sat. April 25 at about 11 am at Jack & Maurine Scott's at 15 mallard Point, Mount Vernon, Ohio. Soup, sandwiches and beverages will be supplied. You may bring a salad, dessert, or a snack. If you would like to attend please call Jack at 740-392-8896

This Site

This is a place for people who are interested in writing and/or publishing, either in hard copy or electronically, or are already a member of an Amateur Press group or just exploring the idea. Hopefully this will be a place where you can upload your electronic journal or an electronic copy of your paper journal.  You may find other people of like interests and communicate with them.

We would like to acquaint you with the world of Amateur Journalism and hope that your interest will urge you to join one of the existing Amateur Journalism organizations. There are many to choose from. The owner of this site is a member of both the National Amateur Press Association and the American Amateur Press Association. The owner of this site is interested in more cooperation between these two associations.

In these organizations, the best work of each year is awarded a laureate award to recognize the members’ achievements. Laureates, and honorable mentions, are awarded in these categories: Poetry, Fiction, History of Amateur Journalism, Editorial Comment, Miscellaneous Prose, Art, Editing, and Printing.

Printing was historically done using letterpress, but offset, photocopy, and mimeograph have all been used in recent times. Today’s journals are generall produced by computer and laser printer, however in some cases the old style letterpress is still used. In each case, the words and their presentation are the focus, not the technology.
